Murals
ABOUT JOHNNIE L. COCHRAN JR. MS MURALS
At Cochran Middle School we take great pride in the murals that are on display throughout the school.
Our murals were created by artist Raul Paulino Baltazar in collaboration with Melly Trochez, working with Cochran students, and were unveiled on September 18, 2009. The project turned walls that had been targets for graffiti into a series of murals inspired by the art and mythology of cultures from around the world, including Chinese, Egyptian, Tibetan, Mesoamerican, Ndebele, Chumash, and Tongva traditions.
The six murals form a path across campus:
- Library: The Power of Study and Concentration
- Theatre of Life: Recognizing Distraction / Finding Your Calling
- The Rainbow Bridge Story and the Hunab Ku: The Power of Memory and Recollection
- The Light of Water: The Source / The Fountain of Life
- The 5 Harmonious Friends or Brothers: Collaboration / Honoring of Elders
- The Good Luck Mural: Power of Perfection / Perfect Equanimity
